About

Welcome to the San Mateo Collaborative!

Our aim is to gather people and organizations who care about the San Mateo Coastline to connect and work together on local issues and projects. We welcome project and topic ideas from all of our members and also lead our own gatherings and workshops. Our current focus is building inclusivity and representation in our collaborative meetings. We want to shape our collaborative into a space where fishers, harvesters, tribal members, conservationists, families, nonprofits, government organizations and more are empowered to share experiences, concerns and hopes for the future of our shared coast and ocean.

This year we are hosting gatherings centered around caring for and interacting with marine life, creating space for different ideological and cultural ways of connecting with our coastline. We will also be launching a series of roundtables for creating a community-based urchin and mussel management plan for the pillar point / maverick’s beach tidepools.

Upcoming Projects:

Drafting a community-based Urchin and Mussel Stewardship plan for Pillar Point Tidepools

Upcoming – Join our mailing list for updates!

We are bringing together community members, state and non-profit groups to draft a stewardship plan for urchins and mussels at the Pillar Point Tidepools.

Collaborative members will have the chance to learn about the available science and history of the ecosystem and share their values and future hopes for the area so that together we can create solutions for managing these important species. We aim to build trust and partnership among collaborative members, navigating alternative viewpoints, bringing underrepresented voices into the planning process and valuing diverse individual and cultural connections with these species.
