Hello MPA Collaborative Members,
We at Save Our Shores are excited to announce Annual Coastal Cleanup Day is taking place this year on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 9am-12pm! We hope you will get involved this year as a site captain.
Annual Coastal Cleanup Day is an amazing opportunity to get outside with your fellow community members, clean up local habitats, and prevent trash from becoming harmful marine debris. Join the thousands of volunteers worldwide that will be participating this year by signing up to lead a cleanup event near you. As a site captain you are welcome to promote your organization/business and the work you do during the event with your branded materials.
Registration is now live for you to sign up as the site captain of your favorite local beach, river, or park. Site captain registration is first come first serve, so take a moment to complete this site captain registration form to reserve your spot now. Locations will be removed from the list as people sign up, so if you do not see your desired location listed it means someone else has already signed up to be the site captain.
Site captains take on the role of leading the cleanup event, this entails bringing cleanup supplies provided by SOS to the location, checking in volunteers, providing the safety and data collection instructions, and returning all supplies, waivers, and data to Save Our Shores after the cleanup. Site captains are required to attend one virtual training session. Site captain training will be held on Tuesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 31 from 6pm-8pm on Zoom, again you are only required to attend one training session. We will be hosting multiple supply pick up dates in September, with more details coming later this month. Public volunteer registration will be going live on our website soon, so stay tuned to share with your friends and family the location you sign up for so they can register as a volunteer and join you!
