About
The San Diego Collaborative includes diverse representatives from over 30 organizations across San Diego County.
Since its inception in 2012, the Collaborative has worked to identify and address numerous issues surrounding local marine protected areas, beginning with a successful request to the Fish and Game Commission to add a “no collecting” icon to State Marine Reserve signage. Members have spearheaded signage installation and development and produced and distributed 10,000 recreational brochures and fishing guides across San Diego County to enhance local understanding and compliance with marine protected areas. They have also worked to integrate Kumeyaay tribal practices and history into local interpretive panels and recreational brochures.

Jayme Timberlake

Biography

Jayme Timberlake is the Coastal Zone Administrator for the City of Oceanside, where she administers programs related to coastal habitat restoration, resiliency planning, and coastal infrastructure protection. As the first Coastal Zone Administrator for the City, Ms. Timberlake developed and manages the City’s Opportunistic Beach Fill Program, works collaboratively with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the San Diego County Shoreline Study and Harbor Navigation Program, synchronizes with SANDAG on regional efforts lead by the regional Shoreline Preservation Working Group, as well as develops and manages supportive studies that showcase changes along the Oceanside coastline. Additionally, she is the project manager of the RE:BEACH Oceanside Project, which initiated as an international design competition to pilot a new coastal management tool for the City and region to responsibly retain sandy beaches.
She is an environmental professional with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector, and holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science and Geography from UCSB and a Master’s in Marine Affairs and Policy from the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.

Danielle is a lifelong mariner with expertise in ocean science as it relates to ecotourism, education & outreach, and maritime operations. Boats have taken her throughout the Bahamas, Turks, Cuba, Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, and the US West Coast. Curiosity has fueled her career as a dive instructor, sailing instructor, captain, marine biologist, education director, and now a program coordinator of Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System. SCCOOS is a science-based decision support system that provides the scientific data and information necessary to address coastal issues. SCCOOS is one of 11 regional ocean observing systems of the US Integrated Ocean Observing System.
Katie O’Donnell

As ocean conservation scientist with over a decade of experience in conservation stewardship, fisheries transparency analysis, and project management, Katie is fascinated and motivated by people and their relationships with the ocean. She has a broad ocean background; having worked as an educator, aquarist, researcher, analyst, and now as the US Ocean Manager for WILDCOAST. Katie is passionate about making connections and science-based solutions that work for the communities of organisms in the ocean and people on the shore. She manages WILDCOAST’s ocean conservation efforts and community engagement including Marine Protected Area (MPA) Watch, Marine Monitor (M2) radar, advocacy, and enforcement initiatives.
