Listen in on the Sounds of the Sanctuary! The public is invited to attend the unveiling of a new “Sounds in the Sanctuary” exhibit installation the Sanctuary Exploration Center (SEC) in Santa Cruz on Friday, October 11th from 5 – 8 PM. NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) have collaborated to create a unique and interactive experience to listen to sounds recorded in the sanctuary. Researchers at MBARI monitor sounds with an underwater microphone called a hydrophone, and this new exhibit allows visitors to hear sounds from whales, dolphins, and people as well as other natural sounds — from raindrops to earthquakes, as these sound waves travel underwater.
See the Event Flyer for details and scheduled activities.
